Bus Driver Targeted in Shocking Aerosol Attack

On Thursday, 13 August at around 2.20pm, a man travelling with friends boarded a route 151 bus at Crown Road, near Sutton High Street, heading towards Shotfield. The group failed to pay or tap in, prompting the driver to challenge them.

In a terrifying twist, the man got off the bus, set an aerosol can alight, and hurled it through the driver’s cab window before fleeing the scene. Miraculously, the driver escaped without injury.

Police Hunt Suspect After Dangerous Incident

Officers have released CCTV images of the suspect and are urging anyone who recognises him or witnessed the event to come forward.

“This was a shocking and quite frankly dangerous incident. I am very pleased the driver did not come to harm,” said PC Natalie Baynes from the Roads and Transport Policing Command. “Had the aerosol can exploded, I dread to think how serious the injuries could have been.”

“If you were on the bus or can identify this man, please get in touch.”

How to Help Police Catch the Culprit

  • If you recognise the man in the CCTV image or have any information, contact police on 101.
  • Quote reference number 4009478/20 when calling.

Commuters and locals are urged to stay vigilant and assist police in bringing this dangerous criminal to justice.
