Seven Arrested in Nottingham Phone Theft Crackdown

Police have snapped seven suspects in a major bust linked to a wave of mobile phone thefts in Nottingham city centre. The swoop came after officers raided a property on Alfreton Road, Radford, early Monday morning (13 March 2023).

Drugs and Stolen Phones Found in Raid

Officers from the City Centre neighbourhood policing team hauled in large quantities of suspected class A and B drugs. They also uncovered a stash of mobile phones believed to be stolen.

The seven men, aged between 20 and 25, were taken into custody. They face charges including possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, conspiracy to commit theft, and conspiracy to commit fraud. All remain held for questioning.

Operation Cloud Targets Phone Theft Gangs

Earlier this year, the City Centre team launched Operation Cloud after a spike in phone thefts. Officers have been meticulously tracking offenders and recovering stolen goods.

“Mobile phone theft in the city centre has become a concern in recent months,” said Sergeant Richard Tiernan, who led the raid. “We executed a warrant under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act, finding drugs and numerous mobile phones. Tests are ongoing to confirm if they’re stolen.”

“We have seven suspects in custody. This sends a clear message — we won’t tolerate phone thieves.”

“Seizing drugs is vital too. Drug supply causes violence, antisocial behaviour, and exploitation. We’re working hard to stop this criminal activity and protect the public.”

Police Crack Down on Organised Crime

Chief Inspector Amy English, overseeing neighbourhood policing, praised the operation’s success.

“This isn’t low-level crime. Many smartphones cost hundreds of pounds. Thieves can rack up huge bills or make pricey purchases on stolen phones.

“Organised crime groups fund more serious offences with profits from phone thefts. We won’t let them roam free causing misery.”

“Seizing drugs is another reminder that Nottingham won’t tolerate dealers. We’ll act decisively against anyone involved.”
