Shock in Haiti: 14 Bodies Found in Upscale Petion-Ville
Horror struck Port-au-Prince as fourteen lifeless bodies were discovered in Haiti’s wealthy neighbourhoods of Laboule and Thomassin, part of the affluent Petion-Ville suburb. The grim find came on a tense Monday morning amid international efforts to stem weeks of brutal gang violence.
Armed Gangs Turn Petion-Ville into Warzone
Local residents described chilling scenes. Masked gunmen on cars, motorcycles, and even an ambulance stormed the streets with ruthless intent. A bank was looted, a gas station set ablaze, and homes ransacked. Gunfire echoed as the once-peaceful neighbourhood descended into chaos.
“They came wielding weapons… then unleashed terror upon Petion-Ville,” said witness Vincent Jean Robert.
The motive remains unclear. Were these just bandits, or was there a darker role played by corrupt police forces?
Victims Include Parents Out Late Trying to Feed Their Kids
Among those killed were desperate parents who had ventured out at night to feed their starving children. Their senseless deaths add to Haiti’s mounting toll of violence. Even a judge narrowly escaped an attack on his home, highlighting the danger faced by officials.
Gang Uprising Sparks Political Crisis
Haiti has been wracked by a three-week gang insurgency aimed at toppling Prime Minister Ariel Henry. Under mounting pressure from Caribbean neighbours and the US, Henry has agreed to step down. A fragile interim government is set to take over, but the country’s future remains uncertain amid ongoing bloodshed.
