16 Officers Hurt in Leicester Protest Chaos
Leicestershire Police faced chaos over the weekend in East Leicester with a sudden protest turning violent. Sixteen officers were injured during the unplanned event, which sparked public disorder.
Dog Also Attacked Amid Mayhem
Police dogs weren’t spared either — one was badly hurt in what’s been called a “disgraceful attack.” Despite the violence, officers stayed professional and kept attempting to restore order.
Police Federation Slams Violence
“My colleagues do not come to work to be subjected to this type of behaviour and should not be going home nursing cuts and bruises,” said Adam Commons, Chairman of Leicestershire Police Federation.
“They are all trying to do their job and keep people safe. This behaviour is utterly despicable and I encourage the community to help us in ending this as a matter of urgency.”
“I have spoken to some of the officers and our Chief Constable Rob Nixon is also offering support. This is a large operation and I’m incredibly proud of the way my colleagues are continuing to support it to try and bring it to a safe conclusion.”
Policing Operation to Continue
Leicestershire Police say the significant policing operation will continue in East Leicester over the coming days as they work to calm tensions and keep the public safe.
