Sound Lounge Bounces Back After Brutal Vandalism
The Sound Lounge music venue on Sutton High Street reopens tonight, just a week after a shocking vandal attack shattered five huge glass windows. The community rallied behind the venue, raising over £40,000 in donations to fund repairs.
Rapid-fire Crowdfunding Saves the Day
After the devastating damage late last Friday, the venue launched a crowdfunding campaign. It blew past expectations, collecting four times the repair costs in under 24 hours. So successful, they had to shut it down early.
“Huge thanks to Wallington Glass for their incredible support. We’ll reopen tomorrow night with Ghanaian afro singer-songwriter Wiyaala headlining – she’s even travelling with her band to perform live!” the management shared on social media.
Attack Linked to Controversial BBC Report
Sources say the vandalism is tied to recent heated BBC London coverage about local flag displays. The team at Sound Lounge voiced concerns about the hostile atmosphere and its impact on their venue.
Beefed-Up Security for Peace of Mind
In response, the Sound Lounge is stepping up safety, hiring door staff and installing shutters plus extra CCTV cameras to protect against future attacks.
Grateful but Emotional Reopening
“It’s going to be extremely emotional to be back up and running. The crowdfunding made this reopening possible, and we’re forever grateful for all the support,” said management.
They also acknowledged the ongoing challenges, adding, “This is a process… not an easy one.”
