Historic Church Stolen From in Brazen Daylight Raid

Police are hunting thieves who broke into the ancient St John the Baptist Church in Kingscote, making off with valuable silverware and a safe. The culprits smashed a leaded window to force their way inside the 13th-century landmark.

Crime Details and Investigation Underway

Officers believe the break-in happened between 7pm on Thursday, June 20, and 9am the following day. The Rural, Wildlife, and Heritage Crime Team is leading the inquiry.

“Enquiries are ongoing,” a police spokesperson said. “We urge anyone who saw suspicious activity or has dashcam or doorbell footage to come forward.”

Church Steeped in History

The church is famous as the wedding venue of local hero Dr Edward Jenner, who tied the knot here in 1788. The historic building holds both cultural and community significance.
