Chatham Shop Burglars Nabbed Within 30 Minutes
Kent Police moved fast after a break-in at Sports Direct on Chatham’s High Street. Just 30 minutes after the alarm sounded, two suspected burglars were in custody.
Forced Entry and Stolen Trainers
The alarm came in at 1:08 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2022. Officers found a forced door and several bags stuffed with boxed trainers abandoned near the store. Clothing and shoes had been stolen in the raid.
Suspects Caught Hiding Nearby
When police arrived, the suspects had bolted. But a swift search of nearby streets and alleyways paid off. The two men, aged 45 and 51 and both from Chatham, were found hiding in a bush. They were arrested on suspicion of burglary, going equipped for theft, and possession of a bladed article in public.
Both men have since been released pending further investigation.
