Teenager Fatally Stabbed on Sutton High Street

Sutton is reeling after 17-year-old college student Ilyas Habibi was fatally stabbed last week on December 5th. The attack happened around 7.10pm on Sutton High Street, leaving the tight-knit community in shock and mourning.

Brutal Attack on Promising Young Football Fan

Ilyas was on his way home when he was viciously attacked. Emergency crews, including the ambulance service and an air ambulance, rushed to the scene. Despite frantic first aid, Ilyas was pronounced dead before 7.55pm.

His older brother described Ilyas as “hardworking, kind, caring and generous” — a passionate Arsenal fan whose enthusiasm “brought life to their home.” Just days earlier, Ilyas had proudly received a certificate for his Construction course at Croydon College. The family’s dreams were cruelly shattered.

Family Devastated as No Arrests Made

The trauma of losing Ilyas has left his family broken. His mother is barely coping, fainting multiple times daily and grieving in his bedroom. The brother called the stabbing “every brother’s worst nightmare.”

Despite the attack occurring in a busy, well-monitored area, police have made no arrests. Mr. Habibi expressed deep frustration at the lack of justice so far.

Community and Police Rally to Find Ilyas’s Killer

Community members have laid flowers and candles near High Street, creating heartfelt tributes including candles shaped in Ilyas’s initials. Sutton is united in grief and demanding answers.

Detective Chief Inspector Mike Nolan and Chief Superintendent Andy Brittan lead the investigation and urge anyone with information to come forward. The Met Police have launched an incident room and online portal for tips. People can also remain anonymous through Crimestoppers.

This tragedy spotlights the urgent need to tackle knife crime and support communities shaken by devastating violence.
