School Shutdowns After Threatening Emails Spark Panic
A 17-year-old boy has been hauled in by police after terrifying emails warning of gun violence were sent to multiple schools in Sheffield and London on Monday morning. The alarming messages targeted nine Sheffield schools and St Mary’s Primary School and Nursery in Walthamstow, East London, forcing closures and a heavy police presence.
The emails mentioned a “man with a gun intent on causing harm,” sending shockwaves through parents and staff. St Mary’s Nursery shut its doors for the day as a safety precaution.
In a statement to parents, St Mary’s School confirmed:
“We received an email referring to committing acts of 123 added the East London threat appears linked to those in Sheffield but stressed the threats are “not currently believed to be genuine.”

Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy took to social media to calm worried parents:
“The school has received a serious threat also sent to other schools outside London. Police are actively investigating on site. The nursery will likely remain closed this morning for safety.”
Creasy added, “It’s shocking someone would threaten a school. We must stay vigilant.”

Authorities are still determining the source and seriousness of the threats. Parents have praised police’s swift actions but have been warned against spreading rumours online.
