Met Thwarts JSO Plot to Shut Down Heathrow
The Met Police have stopped a major disruption at Heathrow Airport today (Wednesday, 24 July). The environmental group JSO aimed to cripple national aviation by targeting Heathrow this morning. Similar protests have caused chaos at several European airports.
Ten Arrested in Intelligence-Led Raids
In a swift intelligence-led operation, the Met arrested seven suspects at Heathrow and three others elsewhere. All ten remain in custody, charged with conspiracy to interfere with critical national infrastructure. Police recovered cutting tools and glue during raids.
Threat to Airside Security and Flights
JSO planned to breach Heathrow’s airside perimeter fence. This would have forced flight suspensions, triggering huge disruption to international travel and business.
Chief Superintendent Ian Howells: “These arrests showcase excellent coordinated police work to stop JSO’s reckless plot.”
“Had we not acted, thousands of passengers and families going on holiday would have been stranded. Flights would be delayed or diverted, putting travellers and aircraft at serious risk.”
“This criminal behaviour is utterly unacceptable. We will keep working with other police forces, airport operators, and aviation staff to protect the public and keep our airports safe. Anyone threatening airport security will face the full force of the law.”
