86 Arrested in Wiltshire Drink and Drug Drive Crackdown
Wiltshire Police have cracked down hard on drink and drug driving this winter, arresting 86 offenders throughout the month. Officers stepped up patrols and set up extra checkpoints, zeroing in on those reported by the public.
New Year’s Eve Hits Hardest
- 45 drivers arrested for suspected drink driving
- 31 arrested for drug driving offences
- 4 failed to provide samples
- 6 involved in collisions and tested at hospital
- 15 arrests made on New Year’s Eve alone
“We’ve identified and arrested 86 people placing lives at risk through selfish drink or drug driving,” said Inspector Mark Freeman of the Roads Policing Unit.
Police Warn: Drink and Drug Driving is Still a Deadly Risk
Inspector Freeman slammed the ongoing problem. “It’s disappointing some still see this behaviour as acceptable. Drugs or drink, illegal or prescription, driving intoxicated costs lives.”
He paid tribute to officers across the police force who worked tirelessly through the campaign and will continue enforcement and education year-round.
