Family Pleads for Justice 18 Years After Beverley Brinkley’s Brutal Murder
Beverley Brinkley was viciously attacked on a communal stairwell outside a flat in The Stow, Harlow, on February 2, 2003. The 35-year-old died four days later in hospital from severe head injuries, leaving her family shattered.
Now, after nearly two decades of heartbreak, Beverley’s loved ones are desperate for answers. A reward of up to £10,000 is being offered by the independent charity Crimestoppers for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of her killers.
Family’s Emotional Plea: “Help Mum Be at Peace”
Simone Brinkley, 30, one of Beverley’s three daughters, made an emotional appeal to the public. “There’s got to be someone out there who knows something. I would really love them to come forward and help my family, and help my mum be at peace,” she said.
“I remember my mum being bubbly, outgoing, happy all the time. She adored us children and had a personality and smile people always remember. She was so loved.”
“She died a day before my 13th birthday. We just didn’t understand what was going on. It affected us really badly.”
“She would have adored being a grandmother and been fantastic at it. Our children miss out on having a nan, and we have missed out on our mum seeing us grow up.”
“My mum’s parents have now passed away without seeing justice. That’s all they wanted—to know who killed her before they died.”
“Please, if anyone knows anything, come forward. It’s been 18 years now—we need justice. People’s loyalties change, and someone out there must have information.”
Witnesses Describe Two Suspects in Attack
A witness reported seeing two men assault Beverley and flee through the nearby car park.
- Suspect 1: White, stocky, late 30s to early 40s, fairly short, dark wavy hair styled short at the back of the neck, dark stubble.
- Suspect 2: White, taller, aged 20s to early 30s, stocky build, blond shaved hair, long legs.
An e-fit of one suspect was released during the investigation. Four people were arrested but later released without charge.
Police Renew Hope for Breakthrough
Detective Chief Inspector Stephen Jennings urged anyone with information, no matter how small, to come forward.
“In 2004, Essex Police received two anonymous letters, and I am keen to identify who wrote those as they could significantly help our enquiries,” he said.
“Eighteen years have passed since Beverley was murdered. Loyalties change, and I am convinced someone in Harlow knows who is responsible.”
“Beverley’s family has never had closure. Please help us bring those responsible to justice.”
