Tragic Crash on A40 Claims Life of Father-of-Two

A horror smash on the A40 between Abergavenny and Raglan has claimed the life of a 49-year-old man.

Silver Mercedes Crashes on Eastbound Carriageway

The collision happened just after 2pm on Monday 17 January. A silver Mercedes E220 estate was involved in the single-vehicle crash on the eastbound side of the busy road.

Emergency crews, including police and paramedics from the Welsh Ambulance Service, rushed to the scene. Sadly, the driver, later named as Mathew Rawlings from Box, Wiltshire, was pronounced dead at the spot.

Heartbroken Family Pays Tribute

Mathew, described as a loving husband and devoted father to two children, has left a stunned family and community in mourning.

“Mat was a loving husband and doting father to two beautiful children. He was truly loved and will be sorely missed. We’re thankful for the messages of support at this time, but we would ask to be left alone to allow the family to grieve in private.”

Witnesses Urgently Asked to Come Forward

Police have launched a formal plea for information. They want anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam footage from the A40 between 1:45pm and 2:15pm to get in touch.
