Tragic A40 Crash Claims Lives of Mum and Three Kids
The four victims of a horrific car crash on the A40 near Oxford have been officially named. On Monday night (12/10) at around 9:50pm, 29-year-old Zoe Powell from Chinnor and her three young children – Phoebe (8), Simeon (6), and Amelia (4) – all died in a collision between their silver Subaru and a white heavy goods vehicle.
Two Others Seriously Injured
Also in the Subaru were 30-year-old Josh Powell, a passenger, and his 18-month-old daughter. Both suffered serious injuries and remain in stable condition at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Investigation Underway, No Arrests Made
Senior Investigator Sergeant Dominic Mahon thanked witnesses and emergency services for their help, including Thames Valley Air Ambulance and hospital staff.

Sgt Mahon urged the public to avoid speculation, stating no arrests have been made as the probe into the crash’s cause continues. He called on everyone to respect the Powell family’s privacy during this devastating time.

The force is supporting all victims’ families and the HGV driver who has cooperated fully with the investigation. The tragedy has deeply affected the local Chinnor community, Oxfordshire, and beyond.
