Owami Davies Found Safe After Police Murder Arrests

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) made headlines after contacting Owami Davies when she was reported missing on 6 July. On 5 August, the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) received a mandatory death or serious injury (DSI) referral linked to that police contact, following arrests on suspicion of her murder.

DSI Referral Dropped as Owami Found Unharmed

But there’s a twist. Owami Davies has now been found safe, with no serious injuries reported. An IOPC spokesperson confirmed that the DSI referral “does not meet the criteria” and has been declared invalid. The IOPC will take no further action on this matter.

Police to Review Search Efforts Amid Public Concerns

Despite the dismissal of the DSI referral, concerns over the police search for Owami remain. Commander Paul Brogden of Frontline Policing acknowledged these worries, saying:

“We know there have been concerns raised around the search for Owami. As a result, we will conduct a review of all our actions since Owami was first reported missing, alongside Essex Police. The review will be open and transparent to ensure we acted correctly and to identify how we can improve our response for future Missing Person" data-wpil-keyword-link="linked">missing person cases.”

Strict Rules for Reporting Police Contact in Serious Cases

By protocol, any police contact with a person at or before their death or serious injury must be reported to the IOPC as a mandatory DSI referral. While this case didn’t meet that threshold, the police are taking a closer look at their search operation to restore public confidence.
