Met Police Crack Down on London’s Rough Drivers in Major Operation

On Friday 23 July, the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command launched a hard-hitting sweep across London’s streets. Dubbed Operation Spartan, the blitz aimed to snare violent criminals and reckless drivers flaunting the law.

25 Arrests and Dozens of Vehicles Seized

The day-long operation netted 25 arrests for serious offences including possession with intent to supply drugs, carrying offensive weapons, and driving while disqualified. Cops also slapped 239 traffic offence reports on lawbreakers, potentially leading to fines and penalty points on licences.

A total of 41 vehicles were seized, with uninsured drivers and licence dodgers caught in the net. “Tackling violent offenders is a priority for the Met,” said Detective Inspector Dave Monk. “We used every tactic under the Op Spartan banner to catch criminals on the roads.”

Strategic Stop Sites and Cutting-Edge Tech

Officers set up three key stop sites in Greenwich, Waltham Forest, and Wandsworth, zeroing in on cars linked to violent crime. The operation leaned heavily on Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) tech, letting cops act swiftly on real-time intelligence.

The crackdown doesn’t stop here. Officials warned they’ll keep hunting down criminals exploiting London’s roads. “We’ll do everything possible to bring them to justice,” added DI Monk.
