Ex-Top Cop Shuts Down ‘Female Violence Against Men’ Debate
Raj Kohli, veteran former Met Chief Superintendent with 29 years under his belt, fired back on Twitter after being asked if there’s a lead officer tackling female violence against men. The question followed his praise for PC Michelle Harris, who’s spearheading efforts against male violence toward women in Winchester.
‘Not a Genuine Question,’ Kohli Hits Back
Responding to the query, Kohli didn’t hold back. He said:
“Be honest. It’s not really a genuine question, is it? Ask your female friends how many carry keys when walking home, change their route or text mates for safety. Look at the stats showing women suffer way more sexual assault, domestic abuse, and harassment.”
“Men are NOT afraid of women. Men aren’t targeted just for being men. When’s the last time a man was abducted by a woman he doesn’t know? You don’t need me—a man—to explain women’s experiences. Ask them.”
“As a man, I own my part in this. Yesterday marked 20 years since Milly Dowler’s abduction and death at the hands of a man. Milly died simply for being a woman. So no, your question isn’t genuine at all.”
Championing Equality and Raising Awareness
Supt Kohli is a fierce advocate for equality in Hampshire, often speaking out on the disadvantages women face today. Meanwhile, the charity Reducing the Risk acknowledges that domestic abuse affects men and women differently:
“Both genders experience abuse from someone they trust, feeling confusion and blame, but men often struggle more with emotional impact. They also lack the social support networks to open up easily. Men’s Advice Line offers confidential support.”
