Portsmouth Chaos as DPD Van Smashes into Three Sets of Traffic Lights
Morning rush-hour turned into gridlock on Portsmouth’s Mile End Road roundabout after a DPD delivery van crashed into three sets of traffic lights just after 10.30am today.
Major Collision Brings Roundabout to a Standstill
The van smashed through multiple traffic signals, leaving the busy roundabout in chaos. Emergency services, police, and council contractors rushed to the scene for a huge clean-up and recovery effort.
The van’s driver was taken by ambulance to QA Hospital in Cosham but is not believed to have serious injuries.
Clean-Up and Recovery Underway
Council contractors Colas have begun removing the damaged lights, while Boarhunt recovery specialists winched the wrecked van from the roundabout’s centre.
Two lanes remain closed and are expected to stay shut overnight as barriers block the affected areas.
Repair Costs and Traffic Hassles to Hit Thousands
Officials warn the repair job could take several weeks and cost thousands of pounds. Drivers are facing delays with Church Street inaccessible from the roundabout. Diversions are in place via Mile End Road and Rudmore Roundabout.
Update: The traffic lights have now been restored, but restrictions remain. Stay tuned for further updates.
