Two Men Hospitalised After Stealing Animal Drugs in Basingstoke
Two men were rushed to hospital overnight after taking stolen animal medication, linked to a burglary at a Basingstoke vet surgery.
Vet Surgery Burgled in Overnight Raid
The break-in happened between 8.30pm on June 29 and 5.55am on June 30 at a veterinary clinic on Worting Road, Basingstoke. Thieves made off with animal medicines, including a dangerous liquid called Iso-Flo, which contains the anaesthetic Isoflurane.
Serious Health Warning Over Animal Drugs
Police and health officials have warned that using drugs meant for animals can cause life-threatening reactions in humans. Taking, inhaling or injecting Iso-Flo can trigger severe health problems. Anyone who has taken or been offered these drugs must seek medical help immediately.
“One liquid preparation in particular – if inhaled, consumed orally or injected – could cause a severe reaction which could prove life threatening.”
Victims’ Conditions Revealed
- A man in his 50s from Basingstoke was found in serious condition at a town centre property around 7.20pm on June 30 and remains in intensive care.
- A second man in his 40s was hospitalised around midnight but has since been discharged.
Police Arrest Two Suspects, Appeal for Info
Two Basingstoke men, aged 36 and 47, have been arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in custody.
