Two Arrested in London for Modern Slavery After Major Police Raid
Two Bulgarian nationals have been arrested in a crack-down on modern slavery by the Met’s Modern Slavery Child Exploitation team.
Early Morning Raids Target Human Traffickers
In the early hours of Tuesday, 28 July, police executed search warrants at four addresses across London. A man and a woman, both in their 30s, were arrested on suspicion of holding a person in slavery and human trafficking.
Both suspects remain in custody as searches continue at the locations linked to an Eastern European organised crime group.
Operation Targets Forced Labour Ring
The latest phase of this ongoing investigation focuses on a gang thought to traffic and exploit people brought to the UK from Bulgaria through forced labour.
Police say enquiries are ongoing to uncover more suspects and victims connected to this ruthless criminal network.
Met Pledge to Crack Down on Modern Slavery
“This investigation will continue, as we look to find everyone involved and uncover the true scale of this illegal operation,” said Acting Detective Chief Inspector Mark Rogers from Central Specialist Crime.
“Unfortunately, this type of exploitation is still happening across London. The Met’s modern slavery team works around the clock to identify people involved in human trafficking and forced labour. We protect and support hundreds of victims each year and work closely with national and international partners to share intelligence and detain criminals profiting from vulnerable people.”
Police urge anyone with information on modern slavery to come forward as they crack down on human traffickers across the capital.
