Ukraine Claims Blow to Russian Fleet in Crimea

Ukraine’s air force says it has dealt a major hit to Russia by destroying a key landing ship in Crimean waters. The strike reportedly sparked a fire at the port of Feodosia, according to the Russian-installed Crimea governor.

Air Force Boss Praises Pilots After Night Raid

Mykola Oleshchuk, commander of Ukraine’s air force, hailed the attack on Telegram: “And the fleet is getting smaller and smaller! Thanks to the Air Force pilots and everyone involved for the filigree!” However, no concrete proof was provided to back the claim.

Ukraine said its pilots launched cruise missiles in a pre-dawn strike around 2:30 a.m. (GMT), blowing up the Russian Black Sea Fleet vessel Novocherkassk. Details on missile types and numbers remain unknown. So far, Moscow has not responded to the reports.

Fire Erupts at Feodosia Port, Officials Respond

Sergei Aksyonov, the pro-Russian governor of Crimea, confirmed the Ukrainian attack started a fire in Feodosia’s port area. Emergency crews quickly contained the blaze. Aksyonov warned residents in nearby houses would be evacuated and train services suspended for “technical reasons.” Partial road closures are also in place.

Feodosia, home to roughly 69,000 people, lies on Crimea’s southern coast. Videos shared on Russian Telegram channels show fiery explosions lighting up the port, highlighting the strike’s intensity.

Claims and Counterclaims in Ongoing War

Both Russia and Ukraine often trade exaggerated claims about battlefield successes while downplaying their own losses in this brutal 22-month conflict. Crimea remains a hot-button issue worldwide ever since Russia annexed the region in 2014, a move met with strong international condemnation.

The situation is still volatile, with the world watching closely as events continue to unfold.
