Thieves have struck in Lee on Solent, breaking into a rear garden shed and making off with two valuable Giant bicycles. The raid happened sometime over the past week, leaving owners out of pocket and police on alert.
What Was Stolen?
- A Giant Defy 2 in bronze
- A Giant Avail in purple
Both bikes are distinctive and sought after, making them easy to spot if offered for sale.
Police Issue Top Bike Security Tips
Officers are urging cyclists to tighten up security to avoid becoming victims. Here’s their advice:
- Use a Sold Secure approved “D” lock – check out www.soldsecure.com for details.
- Always lock your bike through the frame to a solid, immovable object like a ground-fixed bike rack.
- Park in well-lit, busy spots covered by CCTV whenever possible.
- Take any quick-release parts with you or securely lock them to the bike.
- Register your bike free at www.immobilise.com to help police identify and return stolen property.
Renting? Secure Your Shed or Garage
If you keep your bike in a shed or garage while renting, make sure the door has a strong lock and that your bike is chained with a “D” lock to an anchor bolted into the ground. Don’t make it easy for crooks.
Stay alert and keep your prized cycles safe!
