West Midlands Ambulance Service’s own Clinical Validation Team paramedic, Zoe McIntosh, is gearing up to take on the legendary Gladiators this Saturday (20th) at 5:50pm on BBC1.
From Ambulance to Arena: Zoe Beats Thousands to Gladiators Spot
Zoe was picked from thousands of hopefuls after a brutal selection process to join a select band of contenders facing off against the Gladiators.
A Family Legacy and Fierce Competition
Since 2018, Zoe has been serving with WMAS. She revealed her motivation: “I wanted to follow in my dad’s footsteps—he applied for the original Gladiators in 1998. The whole experience was amazing.”
“Filming took place in front of thousands. Luckily, my family, friends, and colleagues were there to cheer me on. I took part in several games, testing my strength and speed against the Gladiators. It was so much fun and a brilliant experience. I hope everyone enjoys watching the show and I make all of WMAS proud.”
From Life-Saving to Gladiator Games
Zoe began her paramedic career in Staffordshire before moving to WMAS’s Emergency Operations Centre in the Black Country. There, she works in the Clinical Validation Team, triaging vital Category 2, 3, and 4 calls — ensuring patients get the right care at the right time.
Now, she’s ready to swap the ambulance for the arena. Don’t miss Zoe’s gladiator showdown this Saturday on BBC1!
