Tragedy in Bristol: Woman Killed in Shocking Dog Attack

A 19-year-old woman has died after a brutal dog attack inside a flat on Cobhorn Drive, Bristol. Emergency services rushed to the scene at 7:19 PM on Wednesday, February 26, but sadly, the woman was pronounced dead at the property.

Two Arrested Over Fatal Attack

Avon and Somerset Police have arrested two people – a man and a woman in their 20s – on suspicion of offences under the Dangerous Dogs Act. Charges include possession of a prohibited breed. Both remain in police custody as the investigation unfolds.

Officers say the dog involved may be an XL Bully, but confirming the breed is part of the ongoing probe.

Dog Sedated and Seized by Police

Police at the scene sedated the dog and took it into custody. It is now being held as evidence while the investigation continues.

Police Appeal for Help and Increased Patrols

“A full investigation is now well underway to establish the full circumstances of the events that led to her death,”

– Neighbourhood Inspector Terry Murphy

Cobhorn Drive was temporarily shut down following the incident. Residents can expect a stronger police presence in the coming days, with officers urging locals to come forward with any information or concerns.

XL Bully Ban Comes Into Force

Since February 2024, owning an XL Bully in England and Wales without an exemption certificate is a criminal offence. New laws require owners to:

  • Neuter and microchip their dogs
  • Keep dogs muzzled and on a lead in public
  • Follow strict conditions to legally keep the breed

The government introduced this ban after a spike in fatal attacks involving XL Bullies.

Public Urged to Speak Out

Police are appealing for anyone with information about the incident or the dog’s ownership to come forward immediately.
