Mystery in Bath as Woman with Plastic Bag Sparks Emergency

Chaos hit Stall Street in Bath on Monday when a woman carrying a plastic bag left people feeling unwell. Emergency services swooped in, with Avon and Somerset Police arresting a 73-year-old woman on suspicion of administering an unknown noxious substance.

Hazmat Teams Seal Off Area as Victims Hospitalised

Responders in hazmat suits quickly cordoned off the area to protect the public. Initially, two people were taken to hospital, but only one woman needed treatment for breathing difficulties and itchy eyes. She was discharged later the same day.

No Chemicals Found but Investigation Continues

Despite intensive tests, no trace of any harmful substance was discovered. The police lifted the cordon just before 8 pm after identifying the suspect via CCTV footage and making the arrest.

Police Praise Public and Urge Witnesses to Come Forward

Chief Inspector Scott Hill of Bath Neighbourhood Policing said: “Public safety is always our top priority. We acted swiftly and effectively to handle this isolated incident.”

Hill added that precautionary measures, including protective gear, were necessary due to initial uncertainties. He reassured the public, confirming no chemical threats remain.

“Further enquiries are ongoing to understand why some people felt unwell,” Hill said. “We have made an arrest as we investigate whether any offences were committed.”

Police urge anyone with information to call 101 and assist with the investigation.
