Woman and Young Girl Killed in Horror Plymouth Crash
A 5-year-old girl and a woman have died after being struck by a car in Plymouth. Police arrested the 74-year-old female driver on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Tragedy on Victoria Road
The fatal collision happened at about 9:45am on Victoria Road, Plymouth, Devon. Paramedics rushed the victims to hospital with serious injuries, but both later died.
“Very tragically, a young five-year-old child and a female have since died as a result of this collision,” said Sergeant Steve Hawkins from Devon and Cornwall Police.
Driver Arrested, Investigation Underway
The 74-year-old woman is being held on suspicion of careless driving causing death, and driving while unfit through drugs or drink. She remains in police custody.
Victoria Road remains closed this evening, causing bus route cancellations and traffic disruption. Police are appealing for witnesses or any dashcam footage to assist their investigation (log 240 of March 24).
The victims’ identities have not yet been released. Their families have been informed.
Emergency Services Responded Swiftly
Emergency crews including police, forensic teams, fire services, and ambulance crews rushed to the scene. South Western Ambulance Service sent three ambulances, two air ambulances, and a rapid response vehicle to provide urgent aid.
