Three Dead in Gainsborough Care Home Tragedy – Woman Arrested Then Released

Shock waves hit Swanage as three residents of Gainsborough Care Home were found dead on Wednesday morning. A 60-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter but has now been released under investigation. Dorset Police continue to treat the deaths of two men, aged 74 and 91, and an 86-year-old woman as unexplained.

Emergency Services Respond to Care Home Horror

The cold discovery came at 7:16am on October 23rd, when emergency teams were called to Ulwell Road. Alongside the three fatalities, seven other residents were rushed to hospital as a precaution, though thankfully none are in serious condition.

Remaining care home residents have been safely evacuated to an alternative site and are receiving care with support from Dorset Council and local health services.

Carbon Monoxide Suspected, But No Wider Risk

Detectives are focusing their investigation on possible carbon monoxide poisoning. Police have stressed that there is no wider threat to the community.

The thoughts of the investigation team and wider force remain with the loved ones of those who tragically died,” said Detective Chief Inspector Neil Third. “We are working closely with experts and this work will take some time.”

A strong, multi-agency presence will remain in the area for detailed enquiries, and local officers will keep providing support,” DCI Third added. “This terrible incident will deeply affect the Swanage community.”

Investigation Ongoing – Police Ask for Public Help

The arrested woman was questioned to determine if any gross negligence contributed to the deaths. Enquiries are continuing.
