An ambulance answering an emergency call smashed into a woman’s car on a busy Southampton road, leaving her injured and rushed to hospital.
Crash Chaos on Oakley Road
The terrifying collision happened just after 9.20pm on Oakley Road in west Southampton. Emergency crews were scrambled when reports came in of a crash involving an ambulance and two other vehicles.
Trapped and Freed by Firefighters
Police from the Roads Policing Unit at Totton quickly shut down the road as fire crews from Redbridge, St Mary’s, and Cosham battled to rescue the trapped driver and passenger. Their car had flipped onto its side amid the wreckage.
Firefighters had to cut through the roof of the overturned Skoda Scout using a reciprocating saw and specialist tools to free the pair.
Injuries and Aftermath
- The woman trapped inside was rushed to Southampton General Hospital with injuries.
- A second car, a red Skoda, was also involved in the smash.
- The female driver of the other vehicle, in her 40s, was left shocked but unhurt.
