Darent Valley Hospital Reintroduces Enhanced Infection Prevention Measures

Darent Valley Hospital (DVH) has announced the reintroduction of enhanced infection prevention measures in response to a rise in cases of Influenza and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The measures, effective from today, aim to protect patients, visitors, and staff while minimizing the spread of these respiratory viruses.

Key Measures Implemented

  • Mandatory Masking: All visitors must wear hospital-provided surgical masks in wards and departments unless medically exempt. Patients, where possible, are also encouraged to wear masks.
  • Visitor Health Precautions: Visitors feeling unwell are urged not to visit the hospital. Those who have experienced diarrhoea or vomiting are advised to wait at least 72 hours after symptoms resolve before entering hospital premises.
  • Hand Hygiene: Visitors are reminded to use the provided alcohol hand rub before and after visiting wards or departments. Additionally, handwashing with soap and water after using the toilet is strongly recommended to further reduce infection risks.

Hospital Appeal

A spokesperson for Darent Valley Hospital said:
“We greatly appreciate everyone’s cooperation as we work to protect our community during this challenging time. Your understanding and support are crucial as we take these steps to safeguard patients, staff, and visitors.”

Public Cooperation

The hospital emphasizes the importance of adhering to these guidelines to prevent the further spread of Influenza and RSV. Individuals with symptoms of illness are strongly advised to stay home to protect vulnerable individuals in the hospital environment.

For further updates and guidance, patients and visitors are encouraged to check the Darent Valley Hospital website or contact the hospital directly.

Together, these measures aim to ensure a safer environment for all during the winter season.
