Major Search Sparked on Christmas Eve after Woman seen entering the Water off the Isle of Wight in Sandown

There has been a major search operation off the Isle of wight that was sparked in the early hours of Christmas Eve (Sunday 24th December 2017). Coastguard search and rescue team from around the Island where scrambled just after 3am.

One all weather RNLI lifeboat from Bembridge and the Sandown and Shanklin Independent inshore lifeboat were put to sea. A Six hour search from Culver Parade to Lucombe was carried out whilst two helicopters from Lee on the Solent and Lydd carried out searching in foul weather using a thermal imaging cameras. Coastguard CRT teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have also carried out a shoreline search. Despite very detials searches nothing has been found. A Spokeswoman for The UK Costguard Said” A major search and rescue operation involving 2 helicopters, 2 lifeboats and 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams is underway in the Sandown off the eIsle of Wight area this morning (Christmas Eve). We were alerted at around 03:00 to reports of a woman entering the water near to Sandown Pier, prompting a full scale response to be launched. The Search in ongoing and has now been for a number of hours.”
