Two taxis were taken off the road in Crumlin Village last night after they were found to be operating in a dangerous condition during a joint checkpoint by Gardaí and Transport for Ireland (TFI).
The operation, aimed at ensuring taxi compliance with vehicle safety standards, revealed serious issues with both vehicles. Officers discovered dangerously defective tyres on both taxis, rendering them unroadworthy and posing a serious safety risk to passengers and other road users.

In a further breach, one of the taxi drivers was found to be watching videos online while driving—a distraction that could have led to a potentially serious incident.
A Garda spokesperson said:
“During our checkpoint with TFI in Crumlin Village, two taxis were detected for failing to meet vehicle standards. Both had dangerously defective tyres and one driver was found to be watching videos while driving. These actions compromise road safety and will not be tolerated.”
Enforcement action was taken against both drivers, with immediate prohibitions issued and further investigations ongoing.
Authorities are reminding all taxi operators to ensure their vehicles meet road safety standards and that drivers remain fully focused when behind the wheel.
