A 24-year-old Evri subcontractor has been arrested for allegedly nicking up to 120 parcels just days before Christmas. Delivery bosses grew suspicious over missing orders and tipped off police, who swooped in the early hours of Monday.
Parcel Pilfering Scandal Rocks Southampton
The suspect was hauled in from his Southampton home on theft charges and is currently in custody. Police have recovered around 40 parcels so far, held as evidence, but many gifts remain missing. With Christmas looming, it’s unlikely those parcels will reach their owners in time.
Police Confirm Bad News for Last-Minute Shoppers
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary said: “Sadly, it’s unlikely any of these parcels will now make it to their intended recipients before Christmas.”
Christmas Cops Serve Up Festive Apology
Southampton Police shared a witty message on Facebook:
“‘Twas the week of Christmas, and in our evidence store, staff could barely move, with gifts spread to the door! In Southampton, stockings were hung by the chimney with care, but an apology from us, as for many their presents won’t be there.”
“Rather than nestled, all snug in their beds, our investigators now must complete interviews instead!”
The theft was uncovered thanks to quick action by delivery company managers who spotted the missing parcels. Officers raided the Bassett address, seized the haul, and arrested the subcontractor.
As police continue their enquiries, Christmas shoppers face the harsh reality of empty stockings after this shocking festive theft.
