The flight to London Gatwick crashed just minutes after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, smashing into a medical college building. Only one survivor has been confirmed from the 242 passengers and crew onboard. The catastrophe now ranks as the deadliest global air disaster in over ten years.
Royal Family Mourns Alongside British Nationals
During the parade at Horse Guards Parade, the King, Queen Camilla, Prince William, and Princess Anne all donned black armbands in a show of respect. A solemn minute’s silence followed as the troops were inspected, bringing a poignant pause to the King’s official birthday celebrations.
The tragedy hits close to home for the UK, with 53 British nationals thought to be on board. British consular teams are in Ahmedabad offering support and helping with victim identification.
