Road Closures and Heavy Traffic Following Morning Collision

Gravesend, Kent – A driver has been taken to hospital following a serious two-car collision on the A2 eastbound near Gravesend this morning (February 18).

Emergency services, including Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service, were called to the scene just after 7:30 AM, where they discovered that one of the vehicles had overturned.

Driver Hospitalised

The driver of the overturned vehicle sustained a leg injury and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have since confirmed that their condition is not life-threatening.

Traffic Disruptions and Delays

The crash has resulted in severe congestion, with delays stretching back to Dartford. Live traffic reports indicate that motorists are facing miles of tailbacks and are being urged to allow extra travel time and plan ahead while emergency crews work to clear the scene.

AA Maps has highlighted significant delays, with long queues forming on approach to the incident.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for Kent Police confirmed the details of the incident:

“We were called at 7:34 AM on Tuesday, 18 February, to a collision involving two cars on the eastbound carriageway of the A2 near Gravesend. Patrols, paramedics, and highways officers are currently at the scene, where one of the vehicles has overturned.”

“The driver was treated for a leg injury and taken to a local hospital for further medical attention. The carriageway is currently closed, and a diversion is in place.”

Motorists are advised to follow diversion routes and check for traffic updates before travelling through the affected area.

Authorities have not yet confirmed how long the road will remain closed as investigations and recovery work continue.
