Fire Causes Rush Chaos on Portsmouth Motorway

Fire crews have been called to the A27 after a fire has broken out in a vehicle this evening. The fire is causing traffic chaos on one of Portsmouth’s busiest motorways as driver attempt to make their way home in the evening rush hour. One lane is currently blocked in eastbound between the junction with the A2030 and the A3(M) A number of fire crews have been sent to the incident from both Cosham and Havant fire stations after the battery of the vehicle started smoking and caught alight. Fire fighters were called just after 6pm and left just before 7pm after using a hosereel to cool the battery before making the vehicle safe. None was injured but traffic has taken sometime to resume normal flow past the effected vehicle that is now waiting recovery. .
