Lorry Crashes Onto Railway Tracks in Wallyford
A lorry smashed through a wall and landed on train tracks near Wallyford station, East Lothian, this afternoon around 2pm. The massive emergency response is still on site as chaos continues to unfold.
Emergency Services Rush to Scene
Photos show the lorry awkwardly stranded between Wallyford and Prestonpans stations. At least six firefighters are assessing the scene. The lorry driver’s condition remains unknown but he was rushed to hospital by ambulance.
Train Services Disrupted as Power Cut
Power was switched off around the tracks for safety because the lorry was dangerously close to overhead wires. This has caused severe disruption on the East Coast main line, affecting services in and out of Edinburgh.
Road Closures and Diversions in Place
Police Scotland confirmed they were called at 1:30pm after reports of the lorry blocking the railway near the A199. Roads shut include:
- A199 between Dolphinstone interchange and Strawberry Corner roundabout
- A199 at the Loan junction in Wallyford
- A6094 at the Loan junction in Wallyford
“Diversionary measures are currently in place,” said Police Scotland. British Transport Police are also on-site assisting.
“The male truck driver was taken to hospital by ambulance. Emergency services remain at the scene,” confirmed Police Scotland.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service and Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
