HMRC Offers Lifeline for Struggling Self Assessment Taxpayers
Missed your 2020/21 Self Assessment tax return deadline? Don’t panic. If you can’t pay your tax bill in full, you can set up a Time to Pay plan online for up to 12 months if your debt is under £30,000—no need to speak to HMRC directly.
£310 Million Already Paid in Instalments
Since April 2021, taxpayers have used HMRC’s online Time to Pay service to spread over £310 million in tax bills. If your debt is more than £30,000 or you need longer than 12 months, you must contact 1 to discuss tailored payment options.
HMRC Gives Extra Time to Avoid Penalties
The usual 31 January deadline for filing returns and settling payments has been extended this year. HMRC wants to ease the pressure on taxpayers struggling with deadlines:
- File your tax return by 28 February with no late filing penalty.
- Pay your owed tax in full or arrange a payment plan by 1 April to dodge late payment penalties.
Act fast to avoid fines and spread your tax burden. Head to GOV.UK and sort your payments today.
