Gov’s Rallying Cry to UK Retail Workers Amid Crisis
To everyone working in the UK’s retail sector, these are tough times. Shops across the country remain shut as part of the national fight against coronavirus. I know how difficult this is for business owners and staff alike, and I want to thank you all for sticking to the Government’s guidance.
Online Retail and Delivery: Lifelines in Lockdown
The Government has always said online shopping can carry on – and it’s more vital than ever. Postal and delivery services are still running hard, ensuring the public gets what they need. Food, medicine, home working gear, even entertainment tech – these goods keep the nation ticking.
Electronics and tech help people stay connected with loved ones while stuck at home. Hardware suppliers are keeping us patched up with home repairs too. Although many are told to work from home, we know some of you must travel to your jobs. That’s still allowed, in line with Chief Medical Officer advice.
Thanks for Keeping the UK Supplied
Whether you’re in a small shop, a big store, or behind the scenes in warehouses and supply chains, thank you. Your efforts keep the economy afloat and communities supported during these grim times. The British Retail Consortium has rolled out social distancing rules for warehouses to keep workers safe – proof the sector is stepping up.
Government Support and Looking Ahead
The Government isn’t leaving businesses to fend for themselves. A package of support measures is available, with info on gov.uk/business-support. Ministers are in constant contact with industry and unions to keep support flowing as this crisis unfolds.
To everyone in retail: your hard work is crucial. You’re a beacon of resilience in a tough national fight. We see you, and we thank you.
