Hampshire Locked Down as Tier 4 Hits
All non-essential shops are shutting up shop and non-essential travel is banned as Hampshire plunges into Tier 4 lockdown. The police vow to crack down, but say their main goal is to engage, explain, and encourage compliance with the rules.
Police Chief on Frontline of Covid Policing
Assistant Chief Constable Maggie Blyth reassured locals, saying: “Following the Government’s December 26 tier shake-up, Hampshire and the Isle of Wight remain under strict watch. All of Hampshire is now Tier 4—except the New Forest and Isle of Wight, which are in Tier 3.”
She added, “This pandemic keeps changing, but so does our policing. We’ll keep using common sense while enforcing the rules and crack down on blatant breaches.”

- Tier 4: Majority of Hampshire — non-essential shops closed, strict travel bans.
- Tier 3: New Forest and Isle of Wight — still tough restrictions but slightly less severe.
“We’re working with partner agencies to keep communities safe,” Blyth said. “Covid-19 patrols will continue, and our officers will be as visible as possible in your neighbourhoods.”
