Bembridge Lifeboat Rushes to Yacht Taking on Water Near St Catherine’s Point

The Bembridge Lifeboat sprang into action just after midday today (Tuesday 28th August) after the Solent Coastguard called for urgent help. A 42-foot sailing yacht with six crew onboard was found taking on water about 10 miles south of St Catherine’s Point.

Swift Rescue and Patch-Up at Sea

The lifeboat, named Alfred Albert Williams, reached the stricken yacht around 12.40pm. A lifeboat mechanic was quickly transferred aboard and managed to make a temporary repair to stop the leak.

Safe Decision to Turn Back to Gosport

Instead of pushing on to Cherbourg, the yacht’s crew made the smart call to head back to their home port in Gosport for a proper fix. The lifeboat shadowed the yacht for a while to make sure all was well before returning safely to Bembridge.

The mission wrapped up smoothly by 2.45pm with the lifeboat recovered and ready for the next call.
