False Alarm at Blackpool Tower: No Fire, Just Swaying Netting
Tense moments at Blackpool Tower turned out to be a case of mistaken identity as police confirmed there was no fire. What looked like flames were actually orange netting flapping wildly in the strong winds whipping across the seaside resort.
Firefighters on High Alert Amid Confusion
Initial reports had the emergency services rushing to the iconic 19th-century landmark. The 1 Fire and Rescue Service warned the public to stay clear, saying:
“We have six fire engines, the drone team, and the rope rescue team currently in attendance at a fire on Promenade, Blackpool. Please stay away from the area. The drone team are in operation so please do not fly drones in the area as you may obstruct emergency operations.”
Social media posts showing what appeared to be flames near the top of the tower sparked widespread concern and disruption.
What Really Happened at Blackpool Tower?
Closer scrutiny debunked the blaze rumours. The “fire” was nothing but orange safety netting dancing in the fierce coastal winds. Despite the false alarm, the incident caused “significant disruption” as emergency teams took precautionary steps around the 518-foot-tall landmark.
