Devastation in Australia’s Northern Territory as the remains of a 12-year-old girl have been found following a brutal crocodile attack. The child, who has not been named, vanished around 5:30pm Tuesday while swimming in Mango Creek, near the isolated town of Palumpa—about seven hours’ drive from Darwin.
Police Confirm Crocodile Attack, Black Croc Spotted Nearby
Senior Sergeant Erica Gibson of the Northern Territory Police confirmed the injuries were “consistent with a crocodile attack.” The girl was on holiday with her family visiting Nganmarriyanga, an Aboriginal community in the Daly River region. Authorities also received reports of a black crocodile lurking in the area, increasing fears in the remote community.
Gruesome Recovery and Tragic Aftermath
In a sombre statement on Thursday, Senior Sergeant Gibson spoke of the heartbreaking toll on the family and the entire community. She described the recovery operation as “particularly gruesome,” resulting in a tragic outcome for all involved.
