Emergency services were called to Bluewater shopping centre at around 3.45pm on May 9 after smoke was reported coming from a store room. Kent Fire and Rescue dispatched three fire engines, discovering a phone battery overheating. The battery was submerged in water, and the area was ventilated. No injuries were recorded.

Swift Emergency Response

A Bluewater spokesperson confirmed a small section of the centre was evacuated as a precaution. The centre team responded quickly, as did Kent Fire and Rescue,” they said. “The issue – a small battery smoking – was resolved and the area was reopened swiftly.”

Guest Disruption Apology

The spokesperson added, “We’re sorry for any guests who had their visit disrupted.” The cordon was lifted shortly after, and the shopping centre fully reopened.
