Human Remains Discovered Near Forest Row
On Sunday afternoon, 14 February, walkers stumbled upon human bones and clothing between Priory Road and the A22 close to Forest Row. Police swiftly launched an investigation and conducted thorough searches of the scene.
Gerda Uelfer-Woods Confirmed Dead After Nearly Two Years Missing
Gerda, who disappeared after telling family she was “going away” in late June 2020, had not been heard from since. An urgent appeal for her whereabouts was issued the following month. Tragically, the remains have now been identified as hers.
Family Statement: Heartbroken but Relieved
“We are understandably heartbroken but also relieved that after 8 long months we can finally place our loving mother to rest,” said daughter Heather Woods. “She was an inspiration in so, so many ways, worldly wise and full of adventurous spirit. Enigmatic, strong and kind, she was the sort of person who does not grace this earth often.”
“Her departure has left a gaping hole in our lives. A wonderful mother, sorely missed, deeply loved, never forgotten.”
Police Treat Death as Non-Suspicious
The case is currently classified as unascertained but not suspicious. Coroner’s officers continue their enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Gerda’s death.
