Chaos on the Isle of Wight this morning as emergency services respond to a serious road traffic collision at the Merstone Lane/A3056 junction in Newport. The smash has sparked major delays for drivers and local bus services.
Buses Diverted and Traffic Gridlock
Southern Vectis has rerouted the Number 2 bus, which runs between Newport and Shanklin. A spokesman confirmed: “The 07:56 route 2 Merstone/Newport will divert through Rookley to Blackwater Corner due to the collision on Merstone Lane.”
Traffic is backed up by at least 20 minutes. Drivers trying to avoid the jam via Downend Road hit a brick wall as Long Lane remains closed. This has caused tailbacks along Briddlesford Road near Staplers, adding to the mess.
