A dramatic smash near Calbourne Mill has shut the road both ways after a car flipped onto its roof tonight. Police have slammed the brakes on traffic at Chessel Potteries, enforcing a full road closure as emergency crews rush to free trapped passengers.
Firefighters Race to Rescue
Firefighters from Newport and Freshwater mobilised fast after the crash at 5.40pm on Sunday. Two fire engines and a rescue tender were dispatched, working hard to rescue those trapped inside the overturned vehicle. The road remains blocked, with both carriageways completely obstructed.
Bus Routes Diverted; Travel Disrupted

- At 5.45pm, Southern Vectis bus route 27 got stuck at Westover Lodge Farm, unable to push on through Calbourne towards Newport.

Though two fire appliances were sent out, one from Freshwater and one from Newport, they were stood down en route, with no action taken at the scene.
