Crash Chaos Closes Key Isle of Wight Road, Delays Hit Buses and Traffic
A nasty crash at the Merstone Lane and A3056 junction in Newport this morning has brought traffic to a crawl. Drivers and commuters face major delays, with local bus services forced to reroute.
Bus Service Diverted Amid Crash
Southern Vectis’s Number 2 bus running between Newport and Shanklin is now diverting via Blackwater Corner and Rookley. A company spokesperson said: “The 07:56 route 2 Merstone/Newport will divert through Rookley to Blackwater Corner due to the collision on Merstone Lane.”
Traffic delays of up to 20 minutes are being reported around the crash site.
Drivers Face Gridlock as Diversions Fail
The chaos is spilling over to surrounding roads. Briddlesford Road near Staplers is clogged as frustrated drivers try to avoid the mess by using Downend Road — only to hit another dead end with Long Lane still closed.
Emergency services are at the scene, working to clear the wreckage. Ambulance crews are treating one of the drivers involved.
