Chaos erupted early this morning when a huge water main burst at 5:20am, unleashing a wall of water across Enford Street in Marylebone. Floodwaters quickly swamped basement flats and flooded an area roughly 200m by 100m, leaving residents trapped and homes submerged.
Residents Forced to Swim to Safety
Emergency services evacuated at least 14 residents from basement and ground-floor flats as water levels rose. One terrified resident said, “I had to swim out of my basement room. The water pressure smashed all the windows and all my possessions are ruined.”
Fire Brigade Battles Flood with Full Force
Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters rushed to the scene. Crews from Paddington, Euston, Soho, Chelsea, Kentish Town, and nearby stations sprang into action. Control officers fielded 15 emergency calls and coordinated the large-scale rescue operation.
