Shock as Suspected Child’s Body Found Near Awliscombe
Police have launched a major investigation after the body of a suspected child was discovered in woodland near the Devon village of Awliscombe. The grim find was made this afternoon close to the ancient Hembury Hillfort, an Iron Age landmark.
Police Seal Off Area, Roads Shut
Walkers raised the alarm after stumbling on the body. A large police cordon now blocks off the scene, with multiple roads closed to traffic. Forensic teams and experts are combing the nearby woods for clues to this tragic mystery.
Victim’s Identity Remains Unknown
Devon and Cornwall Police have not confirmed the victim’s age or gender, and no formal identification has been made. Enquiries are ongoing as officers work to uncover what happened.
“We were called to reports of a body being found in a rural location near Awliscombe at around 11.20am today, Saturday, 18 October,” a police spokesperson said.
“A police cordon has been set up at the scene and some road closures have been put in place in the area.”
“Officers are expected to remain at the scene for some time and enquiries are ongoing.”
