Isle of Wight Festival 2018: Council Services Shake-Up

The Isle of Wight Festival kicks off from Friday 22 June to Sunday 24 June, causing several council services to change their usual routine. Here’s what you need to know to avoid any disruptions.

Register Office Moved for Festival Weekend

During the festival, the Isle of Wight Council’s Register Office Marriage Room shifts to County Hall in Newport. All civil ceremonies from Friday 22 June until close of business on Saturday 23 June will be held there. Normal service resumes back at Seaclose Park from Monday 25 June.

Meanwhile, birth, death, and marriage notice appointments stay at the Seaclose offices as usual. Note, Seaclose closes early at noon on Thursday 21 June and is shut all day Friday 22 June.

Coroner’s and Crematorium Services Update

  • The Coroner’s Office will operate from Seaclose but won’t allow personal paperwork collections from 1pm Thursday 21 June through Monday 25 June. Phone lines stay open at (01983) 823010.
  • The crematorium sticks to usual hours over the festival weekend, open from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 June.

Planning and ICT Office Closures

The council’s Planning Services will shut to the public on Thursday 21 June, Friday 22 June, and Monday 25 June due to the festival. Parking around Seaclose will be tight, so only visit if you have a pre-booked meeting.

The office reopens as normal at 8.30am on Tuesday 26 June.

Leisure Centres and Swimming Lessons on Hold

1Leisure Medina closes early at 2pm on Thursday 21 June and stays shut until 7am Monday 25 June.

Westridge (Ryde) and The Heights (Sandown) remain open throughout the festival.

Swimming lessons at Medina are cancelled from Wednesday 20 June to Saturday 23 June, resuming Monday 25 June.
